You
should make Boards of Review at any level a positive experience for the Scout.
Here are some pointers when conducting Boards of Review
-
Keep them short. Tenderfoot through Life Rank and Palm boards should be approximately 15 minutes, and no longer than 30 minutes. Eagle boards are usually about 30 minutes long but rarely longer than 45 minutes.
-
They are not inquisitions
-
They are not trial boards
-
Don’t lead a Scout in to thinking you will reject him if you are not
-
Keep the board friendly
-
Your job is to get the Scout to relax, not to make him more nervous than he already is.
The following presentations provide further insight
into how to conduct a Board of Review. The files may be opened and viewed on
your computer or downloaded for later viewing or for presentation at a
roundtable, university of Scouting, or other gathering. The intent is to provide
a better understanding of how BSA advancement policies and procedures should be
interpreted and implemented.
